Border Collies are not water dogs. As incessant water delivery systems, waves add insult to this apparent injury. We choose a sheltered beach at low tide to minimize the the onslaught of waves (and the potential heartache of a rogue one). We think, and the dogs seem to agree, that the beach, all sandy and filled with new smells, is worth the constant bother of water.
But, even though they got wet and because they got sandy, the boys rolled in all manor of stuff and acted exactly like dogs – Zach and Charlie had a nice winters day at the beach.
After the nice hike on the beach, as the dogs slept in the back seat of the car, we had Northern California’s best Pizza at Cafe Reyes in Pt. Reyes Station. The Farallon is worth the drive. Get the Organic Green Salad – it has the best blue cheese dressing in the Western hemisphere. Even though it is widely held that blue cheese is the perfect cholesterol delivery system, I eat it, potentially shortening my life, so the dogs can have a nice end to their perfect day.
